  • Walk, bike, skate or jog throughout the City of Key Colony Beach.  We have designated pedestrian areas, with three (3) master courses, .4, .5 and .8 with a course board located in front of City Hall marking the courses along the Causeway, East Ocean and West Ocean Drives.
  • Keep in shape at our local city golf course and tennis courts, basketball court, bocci ball court, horseshoe area, children’s playground and public restroom.
  • Walk, bike, skate or jog on the "Old Seven Mile Bridge." Breathe some fresh sea air, enjoy the colorful water and perhaps get a glimpse of sea life.

  • Check out the Key Colony Beach Sunset Park at the end of West Ocean Drive at 12th St. where you can go snorkeling, swimming and shell collecting during the day, and gorgeous sunsets in the evening.
  • Walk the Sombrero Beach shoreline (footwear recommended.) Shake the sea weed to find tiny shrimp. Look for crab, snails, mussels, chitons, man-o-war and jelly fish. Warning! Don't touch the jellyfish, they will sting you. Great photo opportunities. Use close-up lens.
  • Bird-watch!   Birds are everywhere - too many to list. See the Osprey nests at Ave H in Coco Plum. Look for Heron, Gulls, Pelicans, Vultures, Ibis, and Egrets. Lots of good photo opportunities; use a telephoto lens.
  • Watch the miniature and endangered Key Deer on Big Pine Day. Observe the speed limit in the refuge. Please, don't feed the deer.
  • While on Big Pine Key, visit the "Blue Hole" on Key Deer Boulevard. You'll see alligators and turtles, but don't get too close to the alligators, they are not fenced in.
  • Visit the Wild Bird Sanctuary at Crane Point Hammock.  Crane Point Museums & Nature Center
  • Watch the dolphins swim at Dolphin Research Center

    Like fish?
   
  • Drop your fishing line off the Old Seven Mile Bridge or from down below at the Sunset Park. You can also wet a line under Vaca Cut Bridge.
  • Watch the fishing charter boats come in at the end of the day on the Key Colony Beach Causeway. They sometimes have fresh fish to sell.
  • Feed the fish at Captain Hook's Marina just South of the Vaca Cut Bridge at MM 53 around 4:00 P.M.
  • Observe the dolphins at play at Hawk's Cay Resort MM 62.
  • View the sea life in the aquarium at the main concourse of the airport terminal, Hall's Dive Center and the vertical one at the Best Western.

  • Browse the local galleries Bougainvillea House, and Kennedy Studios.
  • Look for weekend "Outdoor Art Shows." Dates are listed in the local paper.
  • Walk through the "ART PORT" exhibition of local artist's work in our airport terminal.

  • Walk through any of our nurseries/garden shops and nature trails and see all the varieties of tropical plants in the Keys
    History Buff?
   
  • View Pigeon Key from the Old Seven Mile bridge, or stop at Pigeon Key Visitor Center at MM 47, and take a train ride with "Henry”.  This is the historical center for the construction of Henry Flagler's railroad, and specifically the Seven-Mile Bridge. Buildings and artifacts give life to bygone history.
  • View historic old railroad bridge at Bahia Honda State Par. Bring your cameras.
  • Tough the rails of the original overseas railroad that exist today as the protective railing of the Old Seven Mile Bridge highway.
  • Cross the old Boot Key Bridge at 20th Street to see the Radio Mari transmitting tower that broadcasts programs to Cuba.
  • Take the Conch Tour Train around Key West, for a full history of Key West.
   
   
   
   
   
   
    Bargain hunter?
   
  • Search out the bargains at the Big Pine Key Flea Market & Grassy Key Flea Market on Saturday & Sunday.
  • There are yard/garage sales almost every weekend. Look for their signs on the highway
   
    Would you rather watch Hollywood stars?
   
  • Lots of movies and commercials are filmed in the Middle Keys area. Find out if any are here during your visit. Examine the movie locations for the film "True Lies" at both ends of the old Seven Mile Bridge (Marathon and Pigeon Key.) The Marathon Airport Terminal was used to film the Steve Martin comedy "The Spanish Prisoner" and "Heartbreakers" was filmed here in 2000, with Sigourney Weaver and Gene Hackman.
